Memes:

Meme 1 Meme 2

I have changed a bit of the content of the two memes that I chose originally. The first meme originally read, “me thinking about my dream job” and “me studying for my dream job.” The second meme originally read, “how do you think we keep the cars here so shiny?” “polish?” and “sorry sir, Jak myslisz, jak trzymamysamochody tutaj tak blyszczace?”

The first meme now reads, “me thinking about how I’m going to do my homework before two in the morning” and “me doing my homework at two in the morning.” I feel that I altered this meme so that I am able to better relate to it. Of course, I could already relate to it, but honestly I don’t even know my dream job so I may have made both of the pictures be the crying child as another iteration.

According to Limor Shifman, stance is the “Information about the communicative positioning of the addresser in relation to the text/message, the context, and other potential speakers,” (Shifman, 369). The stance of this meme is different because it has to do with procrastination and wishful thinking. I didn’t change the other dimensions of the meme as it still includes two side by side pictures of a child smiling and then crying over a piece of paper and a crayon.

The second meme now reads, “how do you think we keep the cars here so clean?” “Um, pledge?” and “Oh, sorry. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands…” I had trouble coming up with something drastically different from the original meme without changing the images. So, the stance is still conveying something that has to do with cleaning products and still serves as a sort of commentary of misunderstanding in terms of language and communication.
